Every single Christmas I have one thing hanging over my head. Something which I have put upon myself.
Actually it was a joy in the beginning, but in recent years it has only become a greater and greater source for guilty conscience.
I have always wanted to embroider a blanket on which we could put our Christmas tree. And 4 or 5 years ago, I found the perfect kit. It's designed by fabulous Pelse Asboe and is called "Skøjtenisser".
And I started to sew lots of x-stitches when the kit had arrived. It was so much fun but soon I found out that the fibres from the burlap made my astma bad.
I tried to continue with the blanket several times, but had to give up.
So now it's in a tin box in my sewing room, and every time for Christmas I go have a look at it, and become annoyed about the fact that I haven't been able to finish it.
Now I just hope that someone has a great trick to keep the fibres out of my throat....
I was thinking to replace the burlap fabric with traditional cotton for cross stitches. I have for many years wondered why burlap is so often used for the Christmas blankets - and I really don't like the texture of it. Of course you will have to start all over...
Veldig inspirerende.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame. I would start over on a linen or cotton cloth. It would be nicer on your hands also. Burlap is not so traditional here.
When my mother has to knit with alpaca, she wears a white dust mask (like this one:http://www.amazon.com/SAS-Safety-2985-Non-Toxic-Dust/dp/B0002STR1I )
ReplyDeleteor sometimes just a bandana, like an old cowboy bandit. Yes, she looks silly, but it lets her finish her project and still breathe.
ReplyDeleteThat was a fine solution, Kristine - thanks a lot. I do like the burlap for the blanket, though so I will have to give it a thought. :))
ReplyDelete..........
Og så er det nemt og sjovt at sy...
..........
It really is, Paula because I have embroidered one side already! Linen would actually look a bit like the burlap - we use burlap for many Christmas blankets here in Denmark. And some even use it for Santa's bag as well. ;))
..........
............
I love that your mother keeps making her projects and uses a Bandana, icicle.
I have thought about the mask before, but never a scarf. I had better try that out. :))
.............
Kh Ulla
i didn't know that ! but thank you for the information because i suffer from allergic asthma so who knows...
ReplyDeletesorry it makes you feel miserable & you had to give up -- because it looks pretty... when i have to deal with a lot of dust i wear a DIY white mask, maybe you could use this to x-stitch your project ? i know it sounds weird, but since you wouldn't be doing this in front of an audience or webcam anyway...
I'm glad to help with that little piece of information, Valerie. It's definitely not good for my asthma. So I bet that it won't be great for your's either.
ReplyDeleteI have thought about the mask thing - I'm almost prepared to do anything to get it done. Sitting outside in summer days could maybe be a solution too. ;))
Take care.
Ulla xx
.........
En hyggelig tirsdag til dig. :))
Ohhh what a shame dear Ulla! I hope you found a solution, or you should wear a mouth protector like Doctors do...
