Finally!

Now I have a reason to pull out every single baby knitting and sewing pattern. And it's not me who is having a baby. That I have to point out....
Christian's brother and his girlfriend is having a baby in October. So a new niece or nephew is on its way.

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I absolutely love to make tiny clothes for little chubby babies. And for a long time there hasn't really been that many babies to "dress".

The pattern for this sweet little owl from Fluff and Fuzz, by Amanda Berry is one I bought today. The finished owl has the perfect size - 7½ centimetres - to lie in a pram, and if I choose a less fluffy yarn, it will probably also fit fine in tiny baby hands.

I will not be making it right away - there lots of time for that....

I must admit that this little vest is already on my knitting needles, though. I bought the yarn about a month ago at Sommerfuglen, when I didn't know that the family was going to become bigger.

It's a pattern from Isager - and you can find it for free on their website. I chose to knit it in cotton - merceriseret bomuld in a neutral color.

I know for sure that you haven't heard the last of this making-baby-stuff-story....

Wiser after the event

We are moving all my sewing things into a new room....why on earth did I buy so much fabric, yarn, books and haberdashery??
I'm sure I will find a fairly reasonable answer to that question after everything has been moved into it's right place.

And I know that if I throw out (or give away) too much of my stuff - like my husband has suggested a numerous amount of times - I will need it sometime in the future!

However, I'm convinced that in time the new room will be a fine and cozy place for creating...

Enjoy the day.

Alain le pilot

Aren't they great? They are the work of the 2 artists Ildiko Muresan and Flavia Marele from Transylvania. You can find their work on etsy and on flickr.

I wouldn't mind having Alain le pilote or Camil the swimmer hanging in my kitchen....

Books

Not much creative going on here...But that's the way it is with me and back.

I do however want to show you some future books, which I think look exiting.

"Embroidery Companion" by Alicia Paulson - some of you maybe already know her from this book or her blog. The book will be out on August the 10th.

And "Créations en couture pour p'tits loups et grands rêveurs " by Gheno/Laëtitia. Available on June the 15th.

Both books look promising if you ask me...

An idea

Don't you know the feeling of annoyance when the glass breaks in a zinc lantern? And there is no chance of a candle being lid without the wind blowing it out. It has happened to me several times by now...

But then I got a great idea, if I may say so myself.

There is no reason to throw away the lanterns. Instead you take out the remaining glass. Drill a hole in the middle of the bottom and put the lantern on a pole and use it as a bird table.

(The ones that are low and square or rectangular, are probably more suitable for the purpose than the ones which are high and narrow.)

Sadly I came to think of this after my husband had left for the recycling depot, with 2 of my broken zinc laterns!!!

Thursday

- In our kitchen -
We all love to sit here in the corner and do some talking. We play games
there too and eat all our meals around the long oak table.
Sometimes we are 4 people - and sometimes we are 11.

 - and in our livingroom -
I finished my 2nd purple and pale blue "Baktus" scarf. My mother saw the one I had made
for myself, and wished one for her birthday. And I'm not even late - her birthday is in 4 s´days!
The little pastel pots and candle holders are my favourite ones these days...

Faves on a Thursday...

A bit of a broken mosaic, but who cares.
I love the faves that show - and the ones that don't....

Forks, spoons & knives...and a little table.

Our everyday cutlery somehow tends to disappear in my house.

Where it goes, is a big mystery but I sure do have a hunch.
If I ask the rest of my little family, then they will look very astonished  - none of them has
the slightest clue of what has happened to the missing forks and knives!

But to cut a long story short, we need some more...
So I have been on the lookout for new, interesting and not so expensive cutlery. And I recently found it in a favourite shop of mine.

I love the fact that it is all different from each other, and that it has so many wonderful colors and prints. And it's even cheap too...

While I was looking in the shop I found this fabulous table as well. Isn't it just fun and beautiful? Just like pearls on a string and the colors would suit our livingroom perfectly. The designer is Norwegian Mia Hamborg and the table is called "Shuffle".

I totally adore it.

But this time I will make do with the cutlery....

Oh my, oh my!!

Temporarily computer - and televison, water + car - breakdown!! How come those things come all at once?? At least the hot water is back and right now I'm writing on my daughter's computer.

Hopefully our own computer will be okay. Soon....

Until then, have a wonderful weekend. :)

Thank you French magazine....

In a wonderful swap with my sweet blog friend Valerie from France, I got some gorgeous French magazines...and lots of other lovely surprises.

In one of them I saw this beautiful shawl. I think it looks so happy and refreshing with all those colors. The fact that it's worn over a striped sweater makes it look even more wonderful and sophisticated.

Both things are designed by Danièle Dietrich and the crocheted shawl can be bought as a kit in the French shop Elle Tricote la boutique. But sadly not for people outside France. Still I have enjoyed looking at the site and the shop.

I love that different patterns can be used and worn together. It gives us all so many possibilities to create our very own style.

When I was a child the dress code for colors and patterns was a lot more boring and conservative. For instance orange and paleblue would never have been a match in my childhood! And stripes with flowers - oh my, oh my....

Adjusting...

...that's what we are doing. It's still not easy not to have Anne-Sophie living at home anymore.

But we have seen each other a lot lately anyway, and that is so fine. I guess we all need that.

And I now know for certain, that we will still be very close to each other as a family. That is such a lovely and reassuring feeling.

Under our staircase I put some of Anne-Sophie's pillows and one of her quilts, while they waited for her to bring them to the appartment. I washed it all before she could take it along (I'm sure she would say that it's just typical for a mum!)

As they lay there in the chair, I really liked the patterns and the colors together. I have never thought about - and seen - those 3 things in this particular way...

But isn't it sometimes a sigh of relief to see everything - fabrics, people and experiences - in a different way and within a wider context? I think so....
