If you loved this book as much as I do, then you will probably be thrilled to hear that another lovely knitting book is on it's way from Vibe Ulrik Søndergaard.

This time it's about knits for babies, and that always comes in handy.

The only bad thing about it is, that we have to wait a while for it to be released. In Denmark it will be published at the end of August. I just pre-ordered it.

I'm doing a bit of baby/toddler knitting myself these days. Remeber this elephant cardigan? So far the 2½ rows of wandering elephants have increased to 7 rows. And I'm actually also doing quite well on the Boxy - like sweater I promised to make for Anne-Sophie in this beautiful yarn.. Soon the front and the back will be done.

And who wouldn't want to keep knitting on a rainy day like this?

Hvis du holdt lige så meget af denne bog, som jeg gør, så bliver du sikkert begejstret for at høre, at endnu en strikkebog er på vej fra Vibe Ulrik Søndergaard.

Denne gang handler det om strik til babyer, og det kan man altid bruge.

Den eneste ting der er træls ved bogen er, at vi må vente et stykke tid før den bliver udgivet. I Danmark kommer den i slutningen af august. Jeg har lige forudbestilt den.

Jeg er selv i gang med lidt baby/små børns strik i disse dage. Husker du denne elefant cardigan? Indtil videre er de 2½ rækker med vandrende elefanter forøget til 7 rækker. Og faktisk går det også helt godt med den Boxy - lignende sweater, som jeg lovede at lave til Anne-Sophie i dette smukke garn. snart er for- og bagstykkerne færdige.

Og hvem ville ikke fortsætte med at strikke på en regnvejrsdag som denne?

...some new books. Yesterday I had a look at several book shops, and there were so many new and interesting books which will become available in near future.

The one which made me the most happy, was the one below.

Wenche's book about making dolls TUSINDFRYD DUKKER, is about to be released in French - POUPÉES CHIFFON is the French title. That's so wonderful for sweet Wenche - I really hope her book will be available for even more people.

I have a crush on sweaters knitted with short rows. The shape is flattering and beautiful, and working on a knit using that technique is always fun. So the book above looked like something I would like. It's called MON GILET PRÉFÉRÉ is written by Naoko Shimoda, and translated into French by Marie Maurin.

Even though I have a dog, I'm still a big fan of cats and that's exactly the theme for the next book. 

LES CHATS AU POINT DE CROIX is about cats made with X-stitches. No one makes X-stitch books like the French or the Japanese people, in my opinion. So this book is absolutly a good bet for a future book in my bookshelf.

Finally I came across COUTURE ORIGAMI by Céline Girardeau. What a great idea to combine sewing clothes with origami! I'm very excited to see more about the topic, and I wonder whether the patterns will look as elegant through all of the pages, or whether I think that it becomes a bit too much with the origami. The patterns are to be made from 2 years to 12 years.

...nogle nye bøger. I går kiggede jeg på forskellige bog shops, og der var så mange nye og interessante bøger, der bliver tilgængelige i den nærmeste fremtid.

Den der gjorde mig allermest glad, var den herunder.

Wenches bog om at lave dukker TUSINDFRYD DUKKER bliver mest snart udgivet på fransk. POUPÉES CHIFFON er den franske titel. Det er bare dejligt for søde Wenche - jeg håber at virkelig at mange flere får glæde af hendes bog.

Jeg har et blødt hjerte for trøjer strikket med vendestrik. Formen er flatterende og smuk, og at strikke med den teknik er altid sjovt. Så bogen ovenfor så ud som noget jeg vil kunne lide. Den hedder MON GILET PRÉFÉRÉ er skrevet af Naoko Shimoda og overst til fransk af Marie Maurin.

Selvom jeg har en hund, kan jeg nu stadig godt lide katte, og netop det er temaet i denne bog. LES CHATS AU POINT DE CROIX handler om katte syet i korssting. Ingen laver, efter min mening, korsstings bøger som franskmændene og japanerne. Så denne bog er absolut et godt bud på en kommende bog in min bogreol.

Endelig stødte jeg på COUTURE ORIGAMI af Céline Girardeau. Sikke en god idé at kombinere syning af tøj og origami. Jeg er meget spændt på at se mere om emnet, Og jeg er spændt på at se, om mønstrene vil være lige så elegante gennem hele bogen, eller om jeg synes det bliver for meget meget origami delen. Mønstrene kan laves fra størrelse 2 år til 12 år.

MY DAILY JUNK is a lovely shop!

If you feel the need for lovely stuff, then you just have to follow the way to Wenche's new beautiful shop. It's called My Daily Junk and is owned by Wenche whom you might know from the blog Tusindfryd. She's also the talented dollmaker behind the book Tusindfryd dukker.

She is amazing at finding cool items, which can make your day even more colourful and happy. and there is even a gorgeous DIY kit for making a little Waldorf doll.

Be prepared to get tempted when you enter the shop. I have already bought stickers and other lovely things which I can't live without...

Hvis du føler trang til skønne ting, så skal du bare følge vejen til Wenches nye fine butik. Den hedder My Daily Junk og er ejet af Wenche, som du måske allerede kender fra bloggen Tusindfryd. Hun er også den talentfuld dukkemager bag bogen Tusindfryds dukker.

Hun er utrolig god til at finde seje ting som kan gøre din dag endnu mere farverig og glad. Og der er endda et superfint gør det selv kit, så man kan lave en lille Waldorf dukke.

Vær forberedt på at blive fristet når du "træder ind" i butikken. Jeg har allerede købt stickers og andre skønne ting som jeg ikke kan være foruden...

Spring inspiration

2 beautiful books came in a flat envelope today - from Århus. I thought that I had ordered them in 

Copenhagen, but instead it was from Tøndering Strik. A gorgeous shop.

I must be getting older, since I can't remember things like that or perhaps my mind is too preoccupied at the moment. I almost know that it's the latter...

The first book is a funny little one - the kind which I adore. Strikkede striber forår. 

It's inspiring to see how the 2 authors think of knitting in another way, and that it doesn't has to be about making clothes when you knit.

Maybe you remember a book with a similar title, which I mentioned last autumn. It's the same 2 women who have written this new book about more stripes.

Nordiske Masker 2 was the other one of the knitting books. I absolutely love the colour scheme which has been used for the models in this book.

2 smukke bøger kom i en flad hvid konvolut i dag - fra Århus. Jeg troede at jeg havde bestilt dem i København, men i stedet for var det hos Tøndering Strik i Århus. En fantastisk butik.

Jeg må være ved at blive gammel, siden jeg ikke kan huske den slags ting, eller også er min hjerne bare optaget af andre ting i øjeblikket. Jeg ved næsten at det skyldes det sidstnævnte.

Den første bog er en sjov lille en - den slags jeg holder af. Strikkede striber forår.

Det er inspirerende at se hvordan de to forfattere tænker på dét at strikke på en anderledes måde, og at det ikke nødvendigvis behøver at handle om tøj når man strikker.

Måske kan du huske, at jeg nævnte en bog med en lignende titel i efteråret. Det er de samme 2 kvinder der har skrevet denne nye bog om striber.

Nordiske Masker 2 var den anden af strikkebøgerne. Jeg elsker simpelthen farveskemaet der er brugt til modellerne i denne bog.

Very late the other night, you would have heard me shouting yes in an entusiastic and happy way. A strange way to act in the middle of the night you might think - but maybe you will see why, when you hear that I won the most wonderful book.

Rakel at bare wunderbar had the pleasure of giving away 5 copies of this book - Liv og glade dage by Nicoline Olsen.

How lucky I were to win the book - it was already on my wishlist...at least for a little while. Thank you so much, Rakel.

And speaking of books, I just ordered Lene Holme Samsøe's new book Suveræn strik. I have been waiting for that one. Somehow she tends to inspire so many knitters in Denmark, every time she has been working on more fantastic knit designs. So I have my hopes up for this book too.

Et stort hurra fra en natteravn

Meget sent forleden nat, ville du have kunnet høre mig råbe et entutiastisk og glad yes. Du tænker måske at det var en underlig måde at reagere på midt om natten, men måske forstår du når du hører at det var fordi jeg vandt den mest fantastiske bog.

Rakel fra bloggen bare wunderbar havde fået fornøjelsen af at kunne give 5 stk. af denne bog væk - Liv og glade dage af Nicoline Olsen.

Hvor var jeg heldig at vinde at bogen...den stod allerede på min ønskeddel...i en lille stund. Tusind tak, Rakel.

Apropos bøger, så har jeg netop bestilt Lene holme Samsøes nye bog Suveræn strik. den har jeg virkelig ventet på. Hun formår altid at inspirere så mange danske strikkere, hver gang hun har arbejdet på flere fantastiske strik designs. Så jeg har viekwlig positive forventninger til denne bog også.

Miss Marple is more than an old female detective

I strømmen af mønstre på smukke cardigans med retro look, er Miss Marple helt klart en favorit. Den minder mig om min barndoms lange søndage med varm frokost, og udforskende bilture rundt  i landet iført det pæne tøj. 

Det er en cardigan af den slags, som man gerne tog ud over en fin kjole. Allerhelst en som min mor selv havde syet, og hvor jeg selv fik lov til at bestemme farve og stof.

Denne cardigan er tiltænkt til brug på alle ugens dage, og modtageren er vores niece Sarah. Den skal være en del af hendes julegave.

Det er et skønt mønster og jeg blev meget begejstret da designeren Nadia Crétin-Léchenne proklamerede, at et lignende mønster til voksne var undervejs. Og selvfølgelig kunne den ikke hedde andet end Lady Marple.

Et halvt ærme er hvad jeg mangler, så for en gangs skyld ser det ud til at jeg nærmest er på forkant med en hjemmelavet julegave. I hvert tilfælde denne...


Masser af strikke og broderi inspiration var der også at finde i de nye bøger jeg fik forleden. Theresa Maria Jessings fortællinger om stort og småt i den nye bog "Livet på Kastaniegården", Helga Isagers udgivelse på svensk "Finstickat" og "Supersize stitches" af Jacqu Pearce.

Jeg kan varmt anbefale dem alle.

IN ENGLISH

Among the many beautiful patterns for retro look cardigans, Miss marple is definitely a hit. It reminds me of the long Sundays in my childhood, when we had warm lunches and drove around exploring our country wearing our best clothes.

It's the kind of cardigan, which we wore over a fine dress. Preferably one which my mother had sewn herself, and I had chosen the colour and the fabric.

This particular cardigan is meant to be worn on every day of the week, and the recipient is our niece Sarah. It's going to be a part of her Christmas present.

It's a lovely pattern and I were very pleased when the designer announced that a similar pattern for grownups was on it's way. And of course it couldn't have another name than Lady Marple.

Half a sleeve is what I need to knit to finish Miss Marple, so for once it seems as if I'm at the cutting edge of a homemade Christmas present. At least this one...

Lots of knitting and embroidery inspiration are also found in the new books I got the other day. Theresa Maria Jessing's stories about anything and nothing in her new book Livet på Kastaniegården, Helga Isager's publication in Swedish Finstickat and Supersize stitches by Jacqu Pearce.

I can highly recommend them all.

Jeg glæder mig som et lille barn...

...på sådan en fin efterårsdag til disse to nye bøger finder vej til min postkasse her i oktober.

"Snedronningen" af Marianne Isager er en samling af hendes velkendte H.C. Andersen inspirerede mønstre, som man tidligere kun har kunnet købe som kit i hendes shop.

Lige siden jeg så Annes smukke, smukke Grantræ inspirerede poncho, har jeg drømt om at lave én i str. lille, til en pige jeg holder af. Nu er muligheden der uden at skulle ofre store summer på opskrift og garn (som jeg har rigeligt af i forvejen).

Hvad jeg glæder mig mindst lige så meget til,  er Susie Haumanns nye bog "Knit for your kid". Jeg nærmest faldt over den ved et tilfælde, men det gjorde ikke min begejstring mindre.

Jeg er overbevist om at den vil blive rigtig god, hvis den følger i sin forgængers ("All you knit is love") fodspor. 

Nu vil jeg gå ud i min have og finde det gode, lune og sol fyldte hjørne under pæretræet. Sætte mig i den gamle havestol og nyde hvordan Otto, under meget nøje udvælgelse, finder frem til lige præcis den pære blandt mange på jorden, som dufter allersødest. Og som han vil guffe i sig mens han ligger ved mine fødder. Han vil spise den med STORT velbehag, for han elsker pærer...og ribs. Og jeg ved at han ikke stopper ved blot den ene...

I'm as thrilled as a little child...

...on such a fine autumn day, to get these two new books in my mailbox in October.

"Snedronningen" (the snowqueen) by Marianne Isager is a collection of her wellknown patterns inspired by H.C. Andersen, which one only used to be able to by as a knittingkit in her shop.

Ever since I saw Anne's beautiful, beautiful Grantræ poncho, I have dreamt of making a little one, for a girl I like. And now the opportunity is here without having pay large sums of money to buy both pattern as well as yarn (which I have a lot of already).

I'm looking just as much forward to Susie Haumann's new book "Knit for your kid". I came across it by accident, but that definitely didn't minimize my excitement.

I'm convinced that it will be really good if it follows in the footsteps of it's predecessor "All you knit is love".

Now I will go into my garden and find the good, warm and sunny corner under our peartree. I will sit down in our old garden chair and enjoy how Otto, in a very careful way of selection, finds the pear among many on the ground, which smell the very sweetest. the one which he will stuff himself with while he lies at my feet. He will eat the pear with much pleasure, because he LOVES pears...and redcurrants. And I know that he won't stop after having only one...

En bog af Pernille Fisker og Helene Jensen. Der er bare noget over layoutet der siger mig, at det er en rigtig god og anderledes bog. Og smuk.

Det er spændende med nye tanker omkring julepynt, og hvilke materialer det fremstilles i. Jeg er i hvert tilfælde allerede meget begejstret. Og der skulle ligeledes være idéer til årets julegaver.

A - tiny - bit about...

...Christmas.

LOOK what all of us who love to knit, can expect at the end of September!!

A book written by Pernille Fisker and Helene Jensen. There is something about the layout which tells me, that it's a really good and different kind of book. And beautiful too.

It's exiting with new ideas about the making of Christmas ornaments, and which materials to use. I'm definitely already very keen on it. And it should contain ideas for this year's Christmas presents as well.

Now I can hardly wait for it to be September the 28th . . .

3 som jeg må huske på

Jeg er altid på udkig efter nye spændende bøger - og når der kommer nyt på broderi fronten bliver jeg altid  ovenud lykkelig.

I begyndelsen af juli kom Knot, thread, stitch af Lisa Solomon. En bog som jeg ikke ville have noget imod at have i hænderne.

Og i starten af juni kom endnu en bog fra Katherine Shaughnessy: New crewel - the motif collection. Du kender måske allerede The new crewel - exquisite designs in contemporary embroidery, af samme forfatter.

Endelig er der mere fransk i korssting. Jeg holder meget af det udtryk som hvid og en kontrast farve kan frembringe med de mange små x x x x.
Jeg har ofte korsstings motiver i hovedet og går og funderer over hvorledes de kunne bruges, men får aldrig rigtig ført dem ned på papir. Men nu har jeg købt 2 geniale bøger - i lommestørrelse - en dag Anne-Sophie og mig var i den butik, hvor hun køber sine materialer til studiet (ÅH, en fed butik!!). De er perfekte til at krydse små motiver ned i og faktisk fungerer det for mig, da jeg allerede har udfyldt nogle sider.

Nå, jeg kom ud på et sidespor, så tilbage til den fransk broderi bog der hedder Cross-stitch sampler af Marjorie Massey.

Jeg har netop bestilt 3 nye bøger, så det er ikke lige nu jeg behøver mere kreativt læsestof, men næste gang der skal bestilles bøger, skal denne helt sikkert med...

Vendestrik bukser

Til alle os der holder af bøgerne "Vendestrik" og "Vendestrik #2" er der godt nyt i vente. Forlaget Vingefang udgiver nu bogen "Vendestrik bukser" af Hanne Meedom.

Tænk engang at man også kan strikke bukser i vendestrik - den tanke har aldrig strejfet mig. Men nu skal det undersøges hvordan det gøres. 

Jeg håber sådan i mit stille sind, at der også snart kommer flere sybøger fra Hanne og Sofie Meedom. Deres sybøger er intet mindre end vidunderlige, og fulde af en masse gode basismønstre på børnetøj. Og har man ikke den store erfaring med at sy, kan man sagtens kaste sig over bøgerne alligevel. Der er grundige forklaringer af forskellige syteknikker.

For those of us who likes the books Vendestrik and Vendestrik #2 there is a good piece of news. The publishing company Vingefang sends the book Vendestrik bukser on the market.

Just imagine that one can knit trousers in short row knitting - that thought has never crossed my mind. But now I want to check out how it's done.

I really hope that more sewingbooks will be coming from Hanne and Sofie Meedom. Their sewingbooks are nothing less than wonderful, and filled with a lot of good basis sewing patterns for children's clothes. And if you haven't got that much experience with sewing, you can easily use the books anyway. There are thorough explanations of various sewing techniques.

I'm waiting for mail from France these days. The book Irrésistibles à tricoter - 0-6 ans is hopefully soon on its way to me.

It's written by Muriela Agator. If you like simple and elegant designs, you have probably already come across some of her designs on ravelry. She writes them in French (of course) and in English. Not all of her patterns are translated into English though.

But if you´re not on ravelry then don't despair. Muriela sells her designs and the book from her shop. Seing her things in the new release will be very existing.

And while we are talking about cool children knitting books, then I look so much forward to this book coming from Annette Danielsen's hands.

I had better get started...

...looking for gorgeous books in this new year we have in our hands.

And what could be better than a bit of crocheting? I didn't get all satisfied with myself and my crochet skills last year, but I took a few steps up the ladder. I intend to go even further this year - it's still a big dream of mine to make a granny blanket.

These 2 books are a suggestion on how to work on my skills and get new ideas. They are both French, but hopefully we can translate ourselves out of that problem..

Granny Folies à crocheter is written by Cécile Franconie and will become available on the 2nd of February.

Crochet Premières lecons is even closer to become published - it can be bought from the 19th of January. Véronique Chermette is the author .

I'm waiting for Tusindfryd dukker

These days I have been thinking a lot about Wenche. The sweet, sweet woman who has the much inspiring blog Tusindfryd, and whom has made a deep  impression on me with her caring and heartwarming personality.

She's a very talented dollmaker, and has just had her first book about dollmaking published. In fact it was released at Klematis the other day, and that's the reason why I have had her in the back of my mind lately.

I'm so happy for Wenche - to see one's hard work and beautiful ideas in a book, must be such a fantastic thing. I know that she will have done her utmost to make the book, so it will present itself in the very best way - both for the eyes and the mind.

I have already ordered my copy of the book Tusindfryd dukker - I couldn't wait until Christmas!
And I'm convinced that we can learn and enjoy from the minute we turn the first page in Wenche's book. I can hardly wait...

For the home

Knitting for my home hasn't been something I have done - at all. But my point of view on that matter changed when I was surfing on both Marianne Isager's and Helga Isager's sites.

Together they have created a new book about knitting items for one's home.
It must have been such an exiting project to make together - especially as relatives. And being at different stages of life, have probably also had a huge impact on their process with the patterns.

Pillows, a baby blanket, a napkin for a breadbasket and a plaid - the one above - are some of the things the book contains. I'm totally crazy about the colours they have used and I don't have a problem about seing it all in my home!

But if I get to knit just 1 thing from the book, I guess that I should consider that as a victory...

Getting inspiration from the book is actually almost enough for me. I often wonder about the thoughts which have gone through a designer's mind while creating. What inspired them to pick the colours, the shapes and the materials? But getting the patterns as well is definitely not a bad bonus.

Just 3 more books. . .

I know that it hasn't been that long ago since I mentioned some new books. But now I have to show some more wonderful  reading matter.

And this time they are even in Danish.

When Lene Holme Samsøe has made a new book full of her spectacular ideas, I simply need to have it. The title is Vild med Garn and this is how tempting the cover is.

Those kind of crocheted  hangers have been haunting me for a while - but in the good way! I wish that my wardrobe would burst with hangers as lovely as these, when I opened it to pick out some clothes! Maybe I get to make them by myself after reading the book.

The idea behind the book Til kaffeslabberas is a mix of photos, conversations and knitting. 7 wellknown Danish artists and designers meet with 7 experienced women, and together they collaborate on creating different knitted items.

Finally I need to show Homemade. A book made by Rachel Søgaard, Stine Hoelgaard and Karen Marie Dehn.  All interesting and talented women.

So there you are! And no more books for a while on my blog...

1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 little elephants

I'm making the preliminary preparations for a little embroidery I have been meaning to sew for months.

So I found all my embroidery floss, tried to pick out some colours and got to change my mind more than 4 times, before I thought that the right mix of colours was there.

5 little elephants are on the pattern I'm going to be making. One in front of the other they will get to walk on the white linen in a long row. In colours which can be used by both boys and girls.

And what is it for you might ask yourself?? 

A kind of chain to hold a pacifier from falling to the floor - eventhough babies at one point in life think, that it's the best kind of fun to throw their pacifier as far away as it can go. I can't help loving that they throw it down over and over, and keep laughing every time. 

I found the pattern in my own copy of the wonderful book Gavebogen - written by Theresa Jessing from Sort Lakrids.

If our little niece Agnes has begun using a pacifier, I will send it to her. And if not, then I simply put it in my box with baby presents...

Book-elicious

I don't think that I have ever looked more forward to this autumn's and winter's new books, than I do in 2011/2012. So many talented people have been busy making books for the rest of us to enjoy - and of course to learn and get inspired from.

Many of you probably already know this fantastic woman from her blog Tusindfryd.
Wenche Steensen is going to release her new book about making dolls. She makes the most wonderful custom made Waldorf dolls for children, and following her blog is a magical thing.
 As far as I can tell from the online bookshops, it will be here some time in the beginning of 2012.
I can't wait to see her work and all the many ideas on making dolls.

Another woman whom I admire so deeply - both as an artist and as a person - is my blog friend Cathy Gaubert. Maybe her name rings a bell since I have written about her several times before. Her embroidery patterns are some of my all time favourites.

Cathy is making a book too. A book about patchwork doll quilts - a thing she does so brilliantly herself. Oh, how I love the work from her hands and head!
The book is called Pretty in patchwork - doll quilts and contains different doll quilts from several talented women.

My sweet American blogger friend Amy is actually going to be in 2 books this autumn. She has quilting blocks in the book Modern Blocks and you can definitely look forward to seing her work. She's really talented and makes all her things with such dedication.
The book will be in the stores by October 2011.

And she has things in the book Zakka Style, which has contributions from different crafters. This one will be available in December, so there's a clear cut idea for a Christmas present.

Finally, I know that I will love the first book from brilliant Fiona Dalton. Her patterns - which I have bought and sewn this bunny from - are simply genius and the expression on each animal she makes is so good.

Her book is called Hop, skip, jump - the same as her blog. The book will be in stores about the end of October 2011.

So with all these fabulous books coming, there's one good reason for summer to end a bit faster - eventhough I don't really want it to end at all!

New inspiration for x-stitches

I'm over the moon about the 2 new books about x-stitches, which I recived today. Well, I actually got 4 books, but the other ones are fiction and not about stitches (it's Berlinerpoplerne and Eremitkrebsene by Norwegian Anne B. Ragde).

I bought the embroidery books in France, and they are both full of inspirational ideas for making logos and pictograms with needle and thread. I'm almost certain, that I will get hooked on sewing edged people and traffic signs.

France really have a whole lot of fantastic books about x-stitching in a new and different way. I would never have discovered it, if it wasn't for the wonderful people I have been so fortunate to get in touch with through flickr, blogs and etsy.
