Dots for Ursula

I'm finishing my purple tunic with the Cathy Gaubert "Ursula" embroidery pattern, and I think that it's going to become a favourite.

I like the fabric, I like the shape, I like the length but most of all I like the little Ursula.

Perhaps she could have been placed 5 centimetres upwards and the slit in the neckline could have been shorter.
But never mind that, I like it anyway...

I would love to make a tunic more from the same pattern. Only next time I want it to be in white linen or flax. Summer is ahead and with my speed one can never begin too early!

Of course another girl - little Redcap the youngest - from Cathy's hand will be embroidered on it.

As some of you might remember, I'm a great fan of Swedish designs and Sweden in general. Especially the company called Serholt makes fabulous things...like my beloved birds.

The wonderful giveaway things which I won on Monique's blog, came today.

It was such a neat package wrapped in tissue paper, and it smelled nice of lavenders. That scent came from the fabric heart.

To get the work of a talented woman like Monique, is a pleasure. I love to have things which other people put their heart and soul in making.

Ready for some hands...

And some blogging too. I hope that the mittens will be a tiny bit bigger after blogging. The change of colors have a caused a few tight spots.

Let's see if Anne-Sophie will love wearing them anyway. I think so.

Now it's time for some mittens for my bigsister. I made her a pair in December as a part of her advent calender, but they really turned out to be very weird and deformed!

I will use the same basic pattern as for the Totoro mittens, because it works very well and has a great shape. However, I want to knit stripes this time.

Making my own motifs on a pair of mittens seems rather tempting as well - that would be so funny!

And luckily there's no need to wish for the cold weather for wearing mittens...

Sadly my grandfather died last December. When his house was to be sold, I was so lucky to inherit all of my grandmother's sewing things.

It was a dream come true for me to get them.

All my life my grandmother has set a fantastic example in crafting. She used all kinds of materials and things, which others might not see the potential in. And turned them into fantastic dolls, clothes and other wonderful creations.

As well as a pleasure, it was also emotionally hard to go through all these gorgeous items.

The centimetre measure is worn from her many years of work, and neatly folded ribbons, reminded me of her considerate and inventive personality.

Lots and lots of beautiful old buttons, which my grandmother had bought and cut of old clothes, which were to be discarded, are also mine now.

I really don't think that I have the heart to use them...not for a long time.

Ice & sun

While Anne-Sophie is enjoying 23 degrees, sun and lovely sights right here, it was finally time for Emil to go skiing - in Denmark!

That possibility sure doesn't come up very often here in our little country. My family usually travel to Sweden for that pleasure.

So we went to this place, which had proper ski lifts and a fairly good - but very short - slope. And eventhough it was extremely crowded and they rented out skiies which were "from the late 80ties" as Emil said, he and Christian did have a funny afternoon skiing.

Sadly I can no longer ski, so I watched and were happy that the others had such a nice time. When it got too cold I sought refuge in the car and knitted a row or two, while listening to a good audio book.

BUT we would all rather enjoy the snow and the cosiness in the big snowman's place.....

...that STOF2000 has come up with new patterns??

This dress is so beautiful - well, I hardly know what more to say...I just have to make it this spring.

I imagine that it would be fine and happy in the red & white fabric, or the yellow one with the pink center.

Actually I do think of the dress made in soft, pastel colored flax as well. I will not get surprised, if I go for this simple fabric in the end.

Or perhaps I will get completely other fabric ideas, when the new catalogue from STOF2000 comes out in the beginning of March.

Totoro is coming along

The pattern is so much fun and has the "I-just-have-to-knit-a-single-row-more factor". So I hope that the mittens will be done when Anne-Sophie returns from Turkey with her boyfriend in a week.

They (or should I say it) fit perfectly and Anne-Sophie is already crazy about the 1st mitten.

I'm satisfied...not least with this wonderful giveaway Monique had at Blueberriesinthefields which I won!! :)))

Do you know Totoro??

Well, I certainly didn't until Anne-Sophie and Emil made me aware of him.

Totoro is a little creature who belongs in the Japanese film "My neighbour Totoro". I haven't seen the film myself, but I would love to see it, after all the good stuff I have been told about it lately.

And I must admit that I can't help liking this cute and grey fellow.

So when I found a pattern for women's Totoro mittens on ravelry, I asked Anne-Sophie whether she liked them.

Luckily she did and now I'm knitting the mittens to go with her black dotty shawl. I'm glad I got the opportunity and it's so much fun...

Okay then

Spring is now officially delayed - that's what they said in this night's weather forecast on TV....

Never mind! I think that I might just want to wear spring then.....

.....you know the Marimekko kind of spring.

...how much I love the mix of these 2 colors.

I have thought about them together before, but got reminded yesterday, when these floss bits caught my eye.

They were waiting to be sorted out and put back in my embroidery floss box.

I imagine that they would look perfect in stripes or in Nordic knitting patterns. Light and soft.

I like it when tiny things inspire....

Ants...a re-view

While checking out the celebrate the boy theme for today, I got to think of my embroidered ants, which I made back in 2008.

They might be an idea for mums with an urge to embroider and to make something different for their little boy.

I made this particular shirt for a dear little friend of mine - Oskar - for his birthday.

The procedure is rather simple. I found a picture of an ant in one of our books, drew it in the size I needed, transfered the amount of ants I wanted on to the fabric and then I began with needle and floss.

The ants were embroidered after I finished sewing the shirt, in order to find the very perfect spot for each ant. It was a bit tricky in the sleeves I must admit.

However, I really enjoyed embroidering the crawling ants, and wouldn't mind making one more of these shirts with bugs one day.

Only next time, I think it's going to be beetles...
