Did you eat "æggesnaps" as a child?

Do you know this?? A little sugar (or rather a lot!!) and some pasteurised egg yolks - give it a quick whisk untill it gets airy and brighter....and then you have my childhood favourite in sweet stuff: æggesnaps.

I haven't had that for years, but today I all of a sudden just had to make it. Uhmmm!! In my mind I turned 7 years old again, sitting on our kitchen table looking out the window...

Eating æggesnaps is a short pleasure, though - it very fast gets a bit too sweet....

Oh! Did I mention that I was home alone?

  1. I know it as well. It was quite popular, but I didn´t liked it, but I loved whipped egg white with sugar (egg snow) together with lemon curd...

  2. Dear Ulla,

being home alone - uhhh I think it's a great time to become seven years old again. Isn't it funny how our taste changes?

My oldest best friend Val and I used to live a few houses away and we often had lunch at each others home. Val's Mom used to make Cherry Casserole for us quite often and we loved it. Many years later I had a craving for Cherry Casserole and phoned Val who UNFORTUNATELY does not live a few houses away any more but some 600 KM and asked for the recipe.
I got it and made it and? Ohhhh it was sooooo sweet : ) next time I made it with hardly any sugar and liked it much better - but wouldn't that be mean for the kids no taste of pure sugar???

Kind regards Nina who wishes you a great and sunny weekend

    God weekend ;-)

  7. Oh, Juliane - whipped egg white with sugar! That's what my mother put on top of her tartes...and I liked that too. It was so nice and delicious to lick the bowl. :))

Æggesnaps was such a treat to get when I was a child. :))

    Dear Nina,

It sure was time to get childish and eat æggesnaps. All by myself.
My children have tasted it though, but don't like it at all. :)

It's funny how we all remember a favourite dish from our childhood. Maybe it was the memories which were good to think of rather than the heavy taste of sugar in the æggesnaps? :))

Cherry Casserole sounds good too - too bad that your best friend live far away from you. Otherwise the two of you could have eaten it together. ;)

    Have a wonderful Sunday, Nina...
    Ulla :))

Rigtig god søndag til dig, Wenche. :))

Poor you that you can't eat æggesnaps, Valerie....I would miss egg yolk terribly. But I have it the same way with cream.

I love those dotty Greengate mugs - I have them in blue as well and dream of some with stripes. :))

A very happy weekend to you and your family as well. :))

Det er nemlig rigtig hyggeligt, Jeannette og lige pludselig kommer det over én - man husker noget som man kunne lide for år tilbage. :))
