Oldfashion dress

Parallel with the duffelcoat, I have been making this little dress in the purple, white and green Marimekko.

I found the pattern in this book - a book which is about to become one of my all time favourites! The fact that the book was made 3 decades ago, gives the various models a very special look and touch of details.

I'm actually rather happy about the way the dress turned out. I think the fabric and the dress go so well together, maybe because both things are designed and written at the same period of time - in the 60ties and the 70ties.

I enjoyed making the mandarin collar and adding the covered button from Små Tekstiler. To close the button I sewed a loop in the same lime green colour as inside the Marimekko flower.

I also tried out some jetted pockets and that I haven't done for a long time. I believe the last time I made them, was when I sewed my own clothes - for parties - in highschool.

(And I'm still crazy about Picnik!)

    ............

Thank you so much, jen! I actually wish the same thing. The dress was for a friend's girl...my daughter is 16 years old so she's too big ;0)

    .................

Oh, thank you SO much, Katherine! :0))
I like the old patterns as well. Sometimes they even get modern again in time ;0)
And I just adore Marimekko, too :0)

    ....................

  11. HI Ulla,
What a lovely dress you made.
It's funny, as you know I recently joined Flickr. When photographing my clothes, I tend to lay the garment down and than take a shot, showing it all.
But you changed my aproach. It's much nicer to show parts of piece, like you did with the green coat.
So you will find some diferent pick in future (and I will add some to your site if I find it suited).
As they say in Dutch: goed weekend.

  13. Nej, hvor er den kjole bare vidunderlig! Du får da godt nok skabt nogle fantastiske kreationer for tiden - dejlige lilla nuancer. Dejligt snit - fine detaljer. Hvad skal man sige... :)

  14. Hi Ria,

    Thank you very much :0)

It's funny that you have changed your way of taking pictures. They were good before too, though :0) I'm honored to have inspired you...

The reason why I take photos of details, is beacuse I think it gives the viewer a more interesting way of seing the motif. And course because I adore gorgeous details ;0)

I would love having more of your beautiful crafts in the flickr group :0))

    Have a nice Tuesday...

    .................

Thanks a lot, annax :0) I have fallen in love with the model myself...even though it's just about the same age as me ;0) (I'm 37 years old and the dress was designed 31 years ago!!)

But age is not a bad thing ;0))

    ................

    Mange tak, Astrid. :0))

    ..............

Thank you very much, lori :0) How sweet of you to say so...

I think I'm in a purple period!!! I just adore that colour ;0)

  15. Ulla, this coat is just so terrific!

I am sorry I wasn't able to get back to you sooner on your offer for the pants pattern. I couldn't decide if I should trouble you at all with this or not. And it all goes by so fast and disorganized in here lately.
Maybe if you have some time I would love a tracing, but only if you have time...
Plus the new Ottobre arrived ( you must already have it). It's so darling!

  16. Juliette, don't worry about writing now...I know how busy things can be with everyday life, family, work - the very nice new issue of Ottobre ;0) - and so on ;0)

I would still love to send you a tracing of the pattern. If you just send me a mail with your adress and the size you need, then I will post it to you and your sweet little Finn... :0))

    Ulla :0)
