Hexagon inspiration

Hexagon inspiration, originally uploaded by lille-ursus.

I'm thinking about making a baby quilt for our niece/nephew to be. I have become so happy to see all those beautiful things made with this particular technique.

It seems like the kind of work which can be taken everywhere. And that is perfect for the lovely summerdays we are having right now.

But I just have a very stupid question: the cardboard pieces that you put behind the hexagon, are they ment to be made on every single one??

Have a wonderful summery weekend each and every one of you. :))

  1. This is looking wonderful indeed and I am very sorry I can't be of any help with this...

Have a happy and sunny weekend, too and just one more week to go!

  2. I am no expert but, on the one I made, I moved the hexagons once they were sewn around all sides...if that makes sense. I used freezer paper instead of card and it worked well.

  5. Oh, you are tempting me with all those great colours and shapes!
I have found out that I can move the cardboard shapes and use the hexagons again once the sewn hexagons are connected on all sides. But the patchwork will look prettier if you iron it before removing the cardboard.

  6. Martha at Q is for Quilt has been making mini hexagons for a doll quilt. She doesn't even use forms to make them. She briefly explained her process here:

Posie Gets Cozy shows the English paper piecing method here:

  8. That's totally okay, Nina. As long as the mosaic can be an inspiration and a joy, then I'm happy. :))

Just 1 more week - it's so good!! ;)) I can't describe how much I'm looking forward to seing her again. :))

A very lovely and warm weekend to you too. We are having perfect weather - sunny and warm. Uhmmm...

    .............

Thank you so much, Millie for your advice. I didn't know that, but it sure makes sense.
And freezer paper can be used - that sounds like a great tip too. I must start that hexagon quilt soon. :))

Thanks a lot for your advice, loneh. :)) I appriciate it so much.
Ironing the hexagons sounds like a brilliant idea. I will definitely do that, once I have cut out all the little pieces of fabric. :))

Ann, thank you so much for the links. :)) Seing things being done, is always a great help. Sometimes it's possible to misunderstand the written words. I have tried that with some knitting recipes. ;))
I will go check out the tutorials right away. :))

  9. Hej Ulla

  10. Hov, Rikke! Du kom aldrig frem i går selvom jeg godkendte din kommentar. Men så er det godt at den dukkede op i dag. Jeg kunne se den i min mail, og jeg var endda ved at lægge an til at kopiere din kommentar ind her. :))

Og de er endda online...1000 tak. :))
