Summer dots and knitted faces

Dotty, girly trousers was what I made some days ago....

And I think that a dress or tunic in the golden flax from Små Tekstiler - which I made bias tape out of as you see - will have to be made to go with the trousers.

My yarn stash needs to be reduced, so I'm just about to start knitting this WONDERFUL pattern - all those little faces really make me feel happy....

I think I'm going to make some adjustments in the recipe, since I don't like the way the sweater is made at the sleeves, at the buttom of the front and back and at the neckline. Some gauge knitting it will be instead!

And perhaps it's going to become a cardigan instead of a sweater as well??

Inspired

On Friday Lise Lotte and I went to see the annual exhibition on Skals Håndarbejdsskole.
There were some nice things, but I definitely always enjoy the works the most, which are made by the children from the sewing and embroidery classes.
The expressions of their work are adorable and so alive.....Children somehow dare to use colours in such a wonderful way...
These I simply adore!!!!
I wish that I knew the names of the talented children, who made the things on the exhibiton, so I could write their names under the pictures....
I did take a few pictures of some "grown-up-made stuff" as well! This bag is in a great fabric and the BIG button is just georgeous. And how about the amount of time it must have taken to cover all these buttons and sew them on to the dress? The effect is stunning.

As always the people at Skals Håndarbejdsskole managed to create that very special Skals-spirit, which you feel the very moment you enter the school. Both through the eyes and the mind...

Counting the days

My mother and I have a little exchange of magazines.....

She usually buys Femina and I purchase Alt for damerne, Boligliv og Hendes Verden

I used to buy the magazine Hendes Verden so my mother could enjoy it. I thought that is was for elder women. But in recent years it has really changed a lot...it has become more youthful. And at the samt time it still aims for elderly.

It has nice recipies for food and knitting and this week I found a wonderful scarf.

I like the way it looks although I want to knit it in different colours...

Maybe I get another great idea for a knit because I'm counting the days at the moment!! This weekend I'm going here:

Our local school for crafts - Skals Håndarbejdsskole - is having it's annual exhibiton of their beautiful works. And a georgeous market with lots of talented artists will take place in the garden.

I think you should go see it...if you like knitting, sewing, felting and other wonderful crafts, you will not be dissappointed....

Baby knits

Now one of my cousins has had her baby girl, so it's time for me to finish the 2 knitted presents, before the baby grows out of them....
I made a creme coloured cardigan in wool and silk. It's the one called MINI by Design Club DK, which every knitting woman in the Danish blogworld knows.
The yarn - Duo Silk - is so wonderful and soft....a very important matter when it has to be used close up to soft, soft baby skin.
The other one is a sweater which I imagined would be nice for colder days. It's also made out of soft wool in brown and pale pink. I really like those 2 colours together...

I still need to sew this one together, knit the neckline and add some buttons in one side of the front piece.

Time to pick some buttons...the creme coloured, square ones will be used for the MINI.

I haven't got the right ones for the brown sweater yet! But I do know that they have to be pale pink as the stars!

Tunics, tunics, tunics...

At the moment I just adore tunics so badly!!!
The different ways of making a tunic are numerous, but they all feel nice and comfortable to wear. Especially if the fabrics are good.

In my head, I have pictures of fabric from my stash being turned into tunics - some in pure flax others in colourful Marimekko fabrics which have been laying on my shelfs for too long....

I see them dotty - I see them with funny little embroideries on - I see them with georgeous bias tapes and in Gingham....

They are all over when ever I look at the shops in town.

Maybe it's a hint for me to get moving and sew something for myself for a change?

(If you click on the pictures, you will see where the lovely tunics can be found!!)

Toys

Today we went shopping for a birthday present for Christian's little niece, Johanne who turns 5 years old tomorrow...
It has been a while since we have bought toys for little girls, and I used to be pretty much up to date on girls' toys and boys' stuff too. But I must admit that these days I'm some what out of date concerning this topic....
But once.......
I remember having this wonderful shop called CURIOSA as one of my favourites when Emil was younger.

They had these adorable waddling lady birds which Emil used to pull in a string behind him - back and forward again and again....

When he grew older, he found great pleasure and joy in this wonderful trajectory - but he was definitely not the only one in the family who loved to play with this!!!
I often thought about buying him a hat like this, but never got around to it. (Maybe it's for girls I can't help thinking now?!) The hat reminded me so much of Richard Scarry's caracter, Ole Orm.
Once I even bought myself a little something - I just couldn't resist the white dog with red dots.....

Well, that was just a trip down memory's lane caused by a birthday present.....

The dotty drawing

The fact that Anne-Sophie has reading weeks came in quite handy this morning, when the dotty drawing had to be done.
She picked out a reciver of the dotty dress, from my little French tin box, which my sweet sister brought me from Paris....
I'm going to send the dress to:

I hope that you will be happy about it, Anne.....

Please let me know your adress - you can email me here: v.jespersen@newmail.dk

Waiting

I'm a VERY patient person by nature but still I HATE waiting!!!
Waiting for:
  • the kids to get ready for school
  • the water to boil for the eggs
  • laundry to get washed
  • Christmas to arrive
  • the joy of seing my husband after work
  • paint to get dry
  • my favourite food to get cooked
  • the dog to let go of my dress
  • the cars to drive slow in our street
  • great concerts to begin
  • the mailman to bring me parcels
  • pictures to be uploaded
  • the windy weather to stop
  • lovely movies to start
  • vacations to take place

But most of all - at this very moment - I hate waiting for Anne-Sophie to get back from her English exams....

Warm and well

In the warm, wonderful, sunny weather we are having these days, everything seems to dry out rapidly. We haven't had any rain for a very long time, which has resulted in a yellow law and flowerbeds with hanging headed flowers in our garden....

The only ones of our flowers which are doing just fine with the heat and lack of water, are our Lavenders. They are gladly bursting out their georgeous colours, as if they haven't noticed the drought and misery of their fellow plants!!

Oh, how I love lavenders.....

The rest of us - at least in my family - have spent loads of time outside and at the beach. Everyone except Anne-Sophie, whom can be found like this all of the time lately:

She is studying so hard for her upcoming exams - first one in English this Tuesday. That is why she and I are speaking English most of the time - for a few more days - by Anne-Sophie's request!

Shorts for Daniel

Shorts for Daniel, originally uploaded by lille-ursus.

The shorts for Daniel are finally done - I'm not that fast! Now I'm working on the ones for his littlebrother Simon.....

I hope he likes them and that they fit. Emil tried them on last night, and that looked fine.

And look what I found - green bias tape with pink dots......I have so many ideas for it in my head - it could be used for anything!

Although Anne-Sophie said to me that "you have so much of those trims and bias tapes!!!!"

I don't think so ;0)

Don't forget the dotty giveaway - there is still time...

Flower problems

What does this little georgeous creature has to do with

these favourite flowers of mine???

Otto simply decapitates them every time he runs by them!!!!! He does no such thing to any of my other flowers....

Maybe the new little flowerfairy - he just had to try it on, while Anne-Sophie was away! - can do something about the problem????

My very own flower fairy

Off she went my very own flower fairy....all dressed up in the costume - so happy and content about it. Ready to begin her very last day at her school, and have a wonderful long day with fun, caramel throwing, water pistols, bowling - all ending up with a party tonight. I hope she will have a funny day to remember, although it is sad as well. My little, big girl.

All the tulle - 7 metres - was turned into a tutu over the weekend.

The tulle was cut out in lenghts - all measuring 10 cm x 70 cm. Then it was fastened to an elastic belt - only by one corner of the fabric. Side by side I put the tulle, alternating between the 4 different colours. By sewing on the tulle in only one corner, you get that fluffy, full and wonderful shape on the tutu.

We bought the wings, the fairy wand and the purple hair at a costumeshop.

So there you go - if you want to dress up as a fairy one of these days..............

Dotty giveaway

This morning I saw that my blog has been viewed more than 4000 times - a number with 3 big 000's. Big dots if you ask me the dot lover.... This calls for a little - dotty - giveaway! The dress is size 98 centilong, with buttons at the back and handmade pink buttonhole loops. Around the waist I have put a beautiful ribbon, which is reversible - green on one side, pink on the other.
The fabric is a wonderful light cotton in blue with paler blue dots......perfect for a nice summerday. I bought it right here at Små Tekstiler.
If you want to join in, just leave a little comment about why you love dots.
I will draw out the winner on Wednesday the 11th of June.
